Great place for a not too long visit. The trolley ride is definitely the highlight. There are several trolley cars on display. A recreation of a trolley track that kids can start the car sized trolley and power on lights in the "town."
My 6 year old adored this museum. The fascination for trains, tracks, and locomotives in general is well quenched here at the museum. The street car ride, just makes the entire experience multiply. To add to this, having Mr & Mrs Claus just made it more memorable for the kids.
Tips:
1. Parking is free on site
2. Book well in advance as it gets sold out
3. Plan for 45-60 mins visit here
After all the snow this week my family was looking to get out of the house. We made our first trip here and it was amazing. My 15mo old could have stayed for hours playing with the trolley diorama and the trolley ride was so much fun. The docents are so knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. We will be back!
Not a great visit. It seems very well funded and well staffed although only open 1 day a week. I arrived around 3:30, to find out I had to wait until a 4pm tour(30 mins) followed by a trolley ride. The museum is small and you basically explore all of the exhibits besides the trolley barn prior to the tour... that being said, my tour was a disaster. The young gentleman "conducting" the tour needs significantly more training before he should be allowed to lead tours. He was combative when people asked questions, a couple abandoned our tour and emerged later with an older gentleman who was our trolley driver and thankfully he took over the tour. Perhaps spending an hour here for 1 trolley ride is supposed to remind you what it used to be like... I just felt as a guest, you are an afterthought to a trolley collection and a bunch of people playing dress up. I wouldn't recommend my experience to anyone.
Probably one of the most underrated museums I’ve ever been too. Everyone here was very knowledgeable and kind. Plus we lucked out on being able to ride two different trolleys (truly by chance-thank you!) enjoyed every moment.
What great fun and lots of history not only of DC but anywhere trolleys or interurban trains ran.
We took my nephew here because he loves trolley cars.. it was such an amazing trip. The conductor was awesome and so knowledgeable.. we took a trolley ride..definitely a must do for the family... it's a lot to see and do..I truly recommend this trip.
A wonderful museum with a kept historic streetcar collection. The volunteers are friendly and well informed.
